Art Gallery of Peterborough

Artspace Peterborough's artist-run centre, a non-profit organization committed to nurturing contemporary art and artists.

Canadian Canoe Museum The largest collection of canoes, kayaks and related artifacts in the world.  Much more than canoes, the high quality exhibits are designed to walk you through Canada's history by telling the story of aboriginal peoples, exploration and trade who all depended on Canada's extensive waterways as the highways of the north.

Hutchison House a living history museum, owned and operated by The Peterborough Historical Society, depicts 19th century pioneer life in Ontario.

Peterborough Lift Lock Opened in 1904 and designated as a Canadian National Historic Site, this is the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world.

Peterborough Museum and Archives

Riverview Park and Zoo wonderful zoo close to Trent University. Virtual tour is available of the various animals as well as the layout of the park. The zoo features 27 exhibits, with over 48 species, including Yak, Camel, Wallaby, Emu, Macaw, Squirrel Monkey, Cougar, Plated Lizard, Meerkat and more!  The park covers 55.5 acres and is the largest and most diversified playground in the city. It also features equipment for physically-challenged children.  With a splash pad, frisbee golf course, walking trails, a miniature train ride, and beautiful gardens the Riverview Park and Zoo has something for everyone.

Festivals and Events

Ecofest Peterborough. Join this fall's only Ontario Ecology Festival. They are pleased to invite you to Ecofest Peterborough , hosted by Lansdowne Place, Peterborough Ontario, October 21 and 22, 2011. This inaugural event will offer a celebration, options for healthy living, new technologies and green programs, relating to the preservation of the beauty of our Kawartha communities and beyond. Join local green businesses, community groups, artists, musicians and others in a festival celebration

MUSE: International Film Festival. Presented by the Peterborough Museum & Archives and the Toronto International Film Festival Group, bringing Canadian and International Film to Peterborough since 1998. Screenings at Galaxy Cinema, Water Street, Peterborough.Occuring during January to April on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. Rush tickets are always available at the MUSE Courtesy Desk in Galaxy Theatre, one half hour before each film begins. Cost: $15 (taxes included)

Peterborough Children's Water Festival May 23rd & 24th 2012 is an exciting community event that provides local students with the opportunity to discover the importance and diversity of water.

Peterborough Festival of Trees - Nov 23 to 27 2011 at various locations downtown. The Peterborough Festival of Trees raises funds for Peterborough Health Care by hosting a series of magical events and experiences created by volunteers and supported by the community. 2011 marks their 21st Anniversary.

Santa Claus Parade - 38th Annual Kinsmen Parade - Starts from City Hall to Morrow Park 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. This year's theme is Christmas and the Movies!

Snofest:  Celebrate the 35th anniversary of Snofest Peterborough with fun events throughout the month of January 2012. Some exciting new events planned for this year include: Pony Rides, a Curling Bonspiel, Sno Jamming Family Day at Armour Hill, a Youth Art Show and Sale and a Library Story time, plus even more family fun at the Carnival on the Hill at the Peterborough Museum and Archives on January 21, 2012.

Sports and Recreation

Burnham Park quiet spot for a walk in the woods. Stop for a picnic or follow trails that meander through majestic stands of maple, beech, elm and hemlock - among the oldest in Ontario.

Evinrude Centre

Kinsmen Civic Centre Each weeknight and weekend, throughout the winter, the facility is engulfed with minor hockey enthusiasm. Adult hockey is also played on the two ice surfaces with several leagues and tournaments. The Kinsmen Civic Centre is also active in the summer with lacrosse and an adjacent softball diamond.
